Update on COVID Prevention Protocols and Testing

The Long Beach Unified School District is sharing updated guidance from health officials regarding COVID-19 prevention protocols. 菠菜网lol正规平台 also will be offering COVID testing clinics starting next week in partnership with Long Beach Health and Human Services only for school district employees and students who are symptomatic or potentially coming off isolation.

Home Quarantine / Isolation Guidance

  • Isolation: Students who test positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to isolate at home for at least five days. A student can only end their isolation after day five if they: 1) are asymptomatic (without any symptoms), and 2) test negative on or after day five.

  • Modified Quarantine: If a child is not fully vaccinated, and both the exposed student and the infected person were wearing masks in a supervised school setting, the exposed child can still attend school in-person if they:

    • Remain symptom free

    • Continue to wear a mask

    • Get tested twice within a week (Monday and Thursday); once right after the parent receives exposure notification, and again three days later

    • Do not participate in extracurricular or community activities, such as sports, until their modified quarantine ends

Students who are fully vaccinated may continue to attend school in-person while watching for symptoms for 14 days.

Mask Requirements

Masks are required to be worn indoors at all times while on school grounds (except when students/staff are actively eating or drinking). Additionally, masks are strongly recommended to be worn outdoors while on school grounds. Medical/surgical grade masks will be available for students as applicable at our school sites. Double masking (wearing a medical grade mask with a cloth mask over it) is also recommended.

COVID Test Clinics

Students and employees who need a COVID-19 test can take advantage of testing clinics offered by Long Beach Health and Human Services on Mondays through Fridays starting Jan. 10 at Cabrillo High School, 2001 Santa Fe Ave., Long Beach. Enter from Hill Street. Testing will be offered 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the exception of a 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. break each day. These clinics are specifically for 菠菜网lol正规平台 staff and students only. PCR and antigen rapid tests will be offered. No appointment is needed.

For information about testing sites offered to the general public, view this page on the health department’s website.

Home Tests

You may have heard about home test kits that the state is shipping to school districts. 菠菜网lol正规平台 has not yet received these home tests, which were referenced by the Governor’s office. We anticipate the arrival of these tests by the middle of next week. When the tests arrive, we will communicate with you about the deployment and the intended use. Please note that home tests will not be required and will not be used for diagnostic purposes, but rather as a supplemental symptom checker for families who want to determine if further testing is necessary.
